Now the kerfed lining could be placed and I finished the sides to receive the back.
I scraped the side very thin where the cutaway was to come, and after mounting the sides on the top I placed reinforcement strips over the whole depth of the body at that place.
After the braces were in place and the bout block had been glued (in the foreground you see my class mate Jan's renaissance lute), I started bending the sides. With that special Selmer cutaway, that proved to be not so easy...
This blog is about guitars. About building, restoring or adapting guitars and other stringed instruments. I have completed the 3-year course of Luthier at the International Lutherie School Antwerp (ILSA) and am currently working on some instruments as a hobby. Feel free to join me in this fantastic journey that is the birth of a musical instrument!
